Project in brief:

Involved since 2009 in the development of an integration project for mandatory training on law enforcement intervention in matters of children’s rights, Cameroon began implementing the action plan in 2012 that it had developed in Niamey the year before. The project was part of the cooperation programme between UNICEF and the Cameroonian government, with technical support from the IBCR.

Our goals:

The first goal of this project was to integrate high-quality, permanent and compulsory modules on child rights and protection into judicial, police and gendarmerie schools in Cameroon for both initial and specialised training.

In the first phase of the project in 2012, a situational analysis of the training of security forces was conducted and a development plan for the initial training toolkit was implemented. The first version of the training manual for trainers was also produced.

The training toolkits were then validated in the second phase of the project in 2014, and 30 instructors received training that would allow them to provide that same training in police and gendarmerie schools in Cameroon. Finally, the development plan for the training toolkit for judges was validated, which then led to the creation of the toolkit and to training for trainers.
